An Overview of the Stop Smoking Shot
AUTHOR: Laura Barrett
Those who struggle with an addition to nicotine know how difficult it is to try to quit smoking. Many people try multiple times and still can’t seem to achieve success. There are many methods available, and while some have been around for quite a long time, others are new on the horizon. The stop smoking shot is one of the most promising even though it’s still being researched.
There are nearly 34 million people in this country who have tried to quit smoking, but only about 1.2 million have actually managed to kick the habit permanently, according to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Statistics show that only five percent of those who quit smoking actually stay smoke-free for three to twelve months.
Smoking is so destructive because it harms nearly every organ in your body, and it accounts for about thirty percent of all cancer deaths. Smoking is responsible for eighty-seven percent of the deaths from lung cancer. It’s the nicotine in tobacco that causes the addiction to smoking.
The stop smoking shot is still being developed and perfected. But scientists have been hard at work to create a means for more people to be able to kick the habit, because the scientific community recognizes that this type of injection would have a huge impact on the health of our nation.
A new vaccine is being developed that might enable smokers to quit. This stop smoking shot works by preventing nicotine from penetrating the brain (this is where the nicotine usually acts as a stimulant). A smoker who would get this type of stop smoking shot would hopefully begin to notice that he or she was no longer receiving anything positive from their smoking. This stop smoking shot has not been officially approved yet, and this could take several more years.
The stop smoking shot is just one method for quitting smoking. It is not the only way, and may not be the best way for everyone. But it is a medical breakthrough technique that is hoped to free many smokers from one of the most strenuous addictions we know.
The stop smoking shot is given in several sessions. The participant gets the shots primarily behind each of their ears. It is designed to combat the physical nicotine addiction. So far researchers feel that the stop smoking shot is most effective when it’s also combined with treatment for the psychological side of the smoking addiction.
This stop smoking shot is a bit painful, as all shots are – so if you are the type of person that has a real aversion to shots, this method may not be for you, and you may choose to go with a more traditional method.
