Ways To Quit Smoking
Even though you enjoy smoking, there’s no avoiding the sobering realization that it’s a habit that compromises your health. Additionally, it’s an expensive habit. Perhaps you have decided it’s time to quit. This is a positive decision, and there are many resources available to you; there are many popular ways to quit smoking.

There are quite a variety of ways to quit smoking; some techniques are almost instantaneous while others take more time. However, all of the ways to quit smoking involve your own commitment as well as the support of other people. No matter what method you decide on, prepare yourself for a tough time initially. You can expect to go through a true “nicotine withdrawal” – and this is upsetting to your system.

Some brave souls decide to go “cold turkey” – they throw away their last pack of cigarettes and never look back. This may or may not work for you. If you’re like the majority of people, more progressive ways to quit smoking are probably more appropriate. The nicotine patch is popular, and other ways to quit smoking include acupuncture, laser techniques, hypnosis, one-on-one counseling, and group therapy.

Commit to a Course of Action

When you are considering whether or not you will quit smoking, you’ll have more chance at succeeding if you are determined and committed. No one else can really motivate you; it’s all just good advice unless you really want to choose to be a nonsmoker for yourself. Take time to think it through, and once you’ve decided to quit, research the different ways to quit smoking and choose the one you think fits you best.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine replacement therapy is a way to gradually reduce your physical dependence on nicotine. You can choose gum, or a patch; there are also sprays, inhalers and lozenges. This is a good way to treat those initial withdrawal symptoms that are so severe in the beginning. It’s good to combine this method with other ways to quit smoking, because it only focuses on your physical symptoms – this can even double your chances of success.

Alternative Health Techniques

You might be interested in trying an alternative method like hypnosis, acupuncture, and laser therapy. While there is often little scientific evidence to support the claims of these ways to quit smoking, many people have successfully quit smoking using them, and it’s definitely worth looking into. Make sure you do some homework so you can make a good decision about whether this type of treatment would be right for you.

Stop Smoking Programs

Smoking is a physical addiction first and foremost, but it is also a psychological addiction, so it’s important to treat the whole person when someone is trying to stop smoking. Stop Smoking programs help people become aware of the problems that can arise during the process. They are designed to offer support and encouragement, which is of great value to someone desiring long-term success. The best programs have both individual and group counseling.

Develop a Maintenance Program

Once you’ve chosen a technique that’s right for you out of all the ways to quit smoking, you’re on your way to forming new, successful habits. Keep in mind that when the program is finished and you are officially a “non-smoker,” you’ll want to have a maintenance program in place so that you don’t inadvertently slip back into your old ways. Think ahead to situations that may tempt you to smoke, and know ahead of time what alternative plans you have in place to prevent this.
