Zyban: A Widely Available Stop Smoking Drug

AUTHOR: Ashley Corbin

Stop Smoking Drug
Ex-smokers enjoy a higher quality of life than those who smoke; they experience fewer illnesses, from colds and flu to more serious diseases. Making the decision to quit smoking opens the door to a whole new experience of life. But it’s not easy – which is why many people try and fail, often repeatedly.

There are a variety of stop smoking aids available today that can greatly increase your chances of success if you are one of the 46 million Americans who smoke and want to quit. From chewing gum to injections and lots in between, there’s a method that’s right for you.

Many people have turned to new prescription drugs that have hit the market that are designed to help smokers quit. One of the most promising drugs is Zyban offered by Glaxo Smith Kline, one of the most well-known drug companies worldwide. Wellbutrin is another brand that contains the same ingredient as Zyban.

The ingredient in Zyban is bupriopion hydrochloride. This drug was originally developed to treat depression. Doctors began to discover that many of their smoking patients who were using the drug lost interest in smoking as their depression lifted. Those who were not even planning on quitting suddenly were able to stop smoking very easily. There were very few withdrawal symptoms as well using what now has become known as a surprisingly effective stop smoking drug.

Is Zyban the stop smoking drug for me?

Zyban is not for everyone. It’s very important to let your doctor evaluate whether this would be a good method for you to use to conquer your smoking addiction. There are some side effects that prevent people from taking this drug to stop smoking. Dry mouth, dizziness, and insomnia are just a few of the major side effects that could occur.

If your doctor thinks Zyban is a good choice for you, he’ll be able to prescribe the correct dosage and monitor your progress throughout. You’ll most likely use the stop smoking drug Zyban for around three months, but again, your doctor will help you determine how long your body requires it. Most patients start taking Zyban seven days before they actually stop smoking, as this helps your system get acclimated to the drug gradually.

How successful is this stop smoking drug?

Lots of people have had good success with Zyban. You can increase your chances of success by combining a prescription for Zyban with another stop smoking method, especially the nicotine patch. You could also try other over-the-counter products like nicotine nasal sprays or inhalers.

Talk to your doctor to determine whether Zyban is the right stop smoking drug for you. If it is, you’ll be well on your way to a happier, smoke-free life.
